Balloon Tower Wero – Kotahitanga – 1P.E

Kia ora, in my level 1P.E class we have been playing Volleyball as a way to express Kotahitanga. We were put into even teams with people we don’t usually work with. In our Volleyball teams we all have our  own roles that everyone has play. My role is the state holder, all I have to do is keep score on how everyone feels after the game and they want to work on or improve.  In our Volleyball teams we also had to come up with names, my group decided to be called the “Bubble Guppies”. From the whole class we have a total of four teams. The people in my team were Calais, Quineil, Maya, Marcia, Carrda and myself.  To help with us coming together better we did a team building activity where we had eight balloons, two chopsticks, six straws, six cups and a roll of tap. With this equipment we had to try and build the biggest tower. In this activity I think we did good when it came to the building part because everyone had a roll of something to help contribute. Something I think we could work on is communicating at the start to help come up with ideas and discuss them better. In the end our tower did not stand up long enough by itself so we did not win but we still got to work together and we gave it a good try. I think this activity really did help with bringing us together and helped us with Kotahitanga. I’m looking forward to playing more Volleyball and building better relationships with my team mates.

Heres a photo of my Volleyball team.

Hacksaw Ridge

Kia Ora, this term we have been learning about the book Hacksaw Ridge. After reading the book we watched a few videos about Desmond Doss’s life, then discussed some ideas between one another. After discussing we started to write a little something explaining a huge discussion that Desmond Doss had to make, and what the different outcomes were or could have been. If I could go back in time and interview Desmond Doss I would probably ask him how his relationship was between him and his brother but also what happened to his marriage between him and his first wife.

Here’s what I wrote:

Pumpkin Soup & Garlic Bread

Kia ora, last week in food tech we made pumpkin soup and garlic bread. We started off with cutting up the pumpkin and carrot and put them in the oven. Once they were soft we took them out and put them in a pan to cook them a little bit more. Then we added some water and coconut milk into the pan and mixed well. We let the mixture thicken up then took if off the element and put the mixture into a blender. When it was finished we poured it into a bowl and started making the bread. We had already made the dough and rolled it out so we just cut into the shapes that we wanted and placed them into a pan with some oil. They turns a nice light brown colour and then cover the bread in some garlic butter that we made from chopped up garlic, herbs and butter. I think something we did really well was making the bread but next time I think we should add more flavourings into our pumpkin soup. Thank you for reading bye bye.

Cooking

Kia ora, last week in food tech we made spaghetti and meat balls. We had to make the spaghetti from scratch. We were tested off how good our sauce was and how well we cooked the spaghetti. We also made peach cupcakes and used the juice to boil down with some sugar and a top coating over the cupcakes. Over all I think my group did an amazing job with finishing the tasks on time and to a good standard. Next time I think we could fold the spaghetti a bit more just to give it more of a bite and not be so soggy.  Bye bye !

Vegetable Gratin

Kia ora, Today in food tech we made Vegetable Gratin. First thing we had to was wash and repair the vegetables. We used potato, pumpkin, onion and silverbeet. We washes the vegetables, peeled the vegetables, washed them again the chopped them up. We layed them in rooms along the bottom of the dish. We added spices and herbs on top along with some cheese. We let it cook for 40 minutes before taking it out and added cheese on top, after we had added the cheese we put it back in the oven for another 15 minutes. Overall I think that my team did a good job, ( my team was Nutella and Breeze ). For my effort I would rate my self a 5/5. Bye bye!

Baking

Kia Ora, my name is Jade.R attending Bay Of Islands College. For my Tuesday option I chose Cooking, last week in cooking we made muffins and banoffee tarts. I worked with Breeze; and for the muffins we decided to leave the blueberries and apples, because they were optional. I think we did an awesome job because of our presentation really but other then that our caramel could’ve been handled differently. For our banoffee tarts we decided to make it like a banana split tart, we did that by slicing some bananas laying them down on the bottom for the first layer, next ice cream and condiments (caramel and chocolate sauce) and then we finished it off with peanuts and chocolate. Overall I would rate my effort a 10/10. Bye!

HCG

Kia Ora, today we got to work with chef Mark. Chef Mark is a man from England but came over to New Zealand and he has been working as a chef for 35 years. Today we made minestrone soup.  Two things we learnt about knife safety was to pass the knife giving the other person the handle and you hold the blade. Another thing is when sharpening the knife is to do it slowly away from you and not at your hand. Two different types of knifes he showed us was a fillet knife and a chefs knife. My overall thoughts of the lesson was that it was fun and we got to learn a few new things. My personal opinion about the minestrone soup was it was good but it could have been better.

Bye 🙂

Cyber Safety

Kia Ora,

My name is Jade and in DFI lately we have been learning about Cyber Safety. Cyber Safety is very important to know if you want to be safe online. Its important to know how much or what type of information is okay/safe to be shared on the internet. A few things that are okay to be shared about your self, is your first name, your favorite color and animals. Sharing you favorite foods are alright to share as well. Since the internet is such a big thing nowadays, cyber safety has also become a big thing. Cyber safety is just learning how to keep safe online and to understand when you have over shared. Cyber safety is also to keep private information safe so know one can steal it or leak it. When it comes to Cyber Safety you want to have a strong password. When you have a strong password you wont to be able to remember it. When you are along you need to be able to recognize when a scam or hacker is trying to take over your device. I think a lot of people know what type of things that shouldn’t be put on the internet like personal information such as ( your birthday, when you are born and where, but also your credit card details ).  It always smart to double or even tribble check the site you are on.  When posting things on the internet you have to think twice because once you put it on the internet its there forever, because people can screenshot and send it to others. posting to much information about your self can put you at a higher risk of identity theft. So overall is best to go into your privacy settings to make sure you are only sharing the things you wont to share, only only the people you wont to see it can see it.

Term 2 Holidays

Kia Ora,

These holidays I basically just spent them with my family. In my opinion these holidays went way to fast, but we basically just went horse riding and spent quality time together. We went for a late night drive up to Kataia and on the way back we got to get Mc Donalds. I also got a package that I was waiting weeks for which was really exciting. Towards the end of the holidays, we ended it off with going to ngawha springs. Overall, I had a pretty good holiday but I’m sad that it’s over. I am really excited for next holidays but this term I am going to try my best to keep my grades good and behave in class, (but I already am behaving in class).
